A young discipline explained with data: what published research says about equine-assisted work.
Why it works
Equine-assisted coaching is a young discipline, and it is natural for it to raise questions — even scepticism. The best answer is not a promise: it is research published in peer-reviewed journals.
Here we summarise what science says to date, sources in plain sight, with the same honesty we bring to our sessions: where the evidence is solid, we say so. Where it is still preliminary, we say that too.

The largest trial published to date (127 children and adolescents with autism, ages 6–16): 10 weeks of equine-assisted intervention significantly reduced irritability and hyperactivity and improved social cognition, communication and the number of words spoken, compared with a control group doing activities without horses.

Sixteen controlled studies, 1,009 young people: a medium, statistically significant and homogeneous effect of equine-assisted mental-health interventions on psychosocial outcomes (d=0.53), including externalising and internalising problems.
